Out to change the world
one quilt at a time

Welcome to my website!

I will update it often as I work through my 'Queer Elders Speak: Quilting the Progression of Queer Rights in Canada' project, so check back often!

And please take a few minutes to look through the scope of the project.  I think it may be the most important work that I have ever done ... other than having kids!

First Update

It is almost time to start the first tour for my ‘Quilting the Progression of Queer Rights in Canada’ project.

Almost ready to go!

There’s a BIG announcement coming!

On my way!!

Watch for me all across Atlantic Canada!

Meet Deanna Gaudaur!

For over ten years, this woman has been my quilter!!

Deanna Gaudaur has been turning my ’sow’s ears’ into ‘silk purses’ for almost 11 years now. Her skills in hand-guided free motion quilting know no limits.

She listens, asks questions, and then does the job. Beautifully!

I absolutely recommend her to anyone and everyone!

Inspired by Place: Quilting the Drake Devonshire

2025

I was awarded a three night / four day Artist Residency at the Drake Devonshire in Wellington, Ontario. It was a joint venture of Drake Devonshire and County Arts.

I was incredibly honoured and I gotta tell you, I've never been treated better than I was by the staff.

This is the quilt that I made there ... Inspired by Place.

YOU WITH THE SAD EYES, DON’T BE DISCOURAGED

60” X 70”

2025

- Inspired by a YouTube recording of 'True Colours' by the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. (QR Code link to the recording on quilt)
Artist Statement:

In January, I watched my greatest fears unfold into reality.
Tears would roll down my cheeks for no apparent reason.
Depression? Fear for my American Queer friends? PTSD?
Yes to all three.

LETTER TO MY THIRTEEN YEAR OLD SELF

80” x 89”

2025

Artist Statement:

I am fortunate to be what I consider a happy, well-rounded and incredibly proud Queer man.
It took me 75 years to get this way.
Had I known the three things that I tell my younger self in this letter, I might have gotten here faster.
To all 13 year olds … It gets better. I promise.

IF KISSESS COULD MAKE IT BETTER

98” x 108”

2025

Inspired by my reaction to the first three weeks of the second Trump presidency.

Artist Statement:

As a hyperactive child who hurt himself a lot, the words I heard most often, I think, were ‘let me kiss it better’.
It seemed to work.
This quilt is my reaction to changes in the US, and the world, since January 20th 2025.
If only kissing it better still wo

OK ... here we go!

No secrets. Nothing held back. This ... is me!

Somewhere along the line I stopped being a 'hot young thing' and folks started calling me a 'Queer elder'!

I wear this title with pride!

Most of my quilts focus on activism ... Quiltivism!

Queer history and Queer social justice issues have become a huge part of my work!

I like to think that my work matters!

I Can't Keep Quiet. For Anyone. Not Any More'

60" x 60"

2022

Listening to Milk sing her song 'Quiet' with Choir Choir Choir I burst into tears as I was flooded with the memory of my own sexual assault as an 11 year old.

The song helped me forgive.

But I will never forget.

This is the first time I added a video link using a QR Code.
