Quilting the Progression of Queer Rights in Canada

A Letter to Quilt Guilds & Quilt Shops

Hi!

In 2025 I plan to travel Canada, visiting all 10 provinces and two of the three territories, interviewing folks for a quilting project focused on Queer history.

As I travel, I plan to share my love of quilt making, storytelling, and activism with Quilt Guilds or Quilt Shops across Canada. I hope that this might interest you.

Here’s What I’ll Do for Each Guild/Shop:

  1. I will present a new BackPack Show (trunk show) using computer projections and at least 20 ‘in person’, recent quilts, at NO cost!
  2. I’ll conduct a half/full day workshop in support of the Canadian Quilters’ Associations 'True Colours Quilt Along', at NO cost! The workshop can be optional.
  3. I’ll also provide fabric, generously donated by Northcott Fabrics, for the workshops.
  4. There will be NO charge for travel costs to or from my home in southeastern Ontario.

Here’s What I Want in Return:

  1. I want your willingness to work with me to find a mutually acceptable date during the time that I am in your area. This may or may not be your usual meeting date. The BackPack (trunk) show and the workshop can be the same day, but they don’t have to be.
  2. I want your Guild/Shop to provide a place for us to meet.
  3. I want permission to accept donations from anyone who might want to donate.  I will simply point out that there is a box for donations.
  4. I’d like overnight accommodation (a billet) for me, with breakfast. Since I plan to camp for much of the trip, this will be a luxury.

I am excited by this opportunity to share quilting, community, and storytelling, while celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion. I hope that you are as well.

Please reach out with any questions or comments or to book a date.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Bill Stearman
